Hauschka One Fine Day was founded in 2008 by Marie Steinmann-Tykwer and Tom Tykwer following a fateful encounter with photographer Bee Gilbert. Bee’s then Partner, Andrew Birkin, and Tom Tykwer had been working together in 2007, writing the screenplay for Tom’s film, Perfume: The story of a murderer”.

Bee and Andrew had started the London based foundation ANNO’S AFRICA in 2006 in memory of their son Anno, a musician and poet who had tragically died in a car accident shortly before his 21st Birthday in 2001. In her son’s memory – and with the conviction that every child has creative potential worthy of expression – Bee started dance, circus and art workshops in the slums of Nairobi, Kenya. Impressed by Bee’s dedication, Marie traveled to Nairobi alongside a group of British mentors. There she headed two month-long pilot art workshops at the St. John’s School in the Majengo slum of Nairobi with over 150 children participating.

History took its course and Marie and Tom decided to start One Fine Day e.V. with the intention of creating all year round artistic opportunities for the children to engage in.

So, in addition to the yearly intensive workshops that ANNO’S AFRICA still offer, the team of One Fine Day teachers have been giving the children of the Kibera and Mathare slums weekly classes in different arts since 2007.
